Description

Cats scratch to strip the dead outer layer from their claws, and they will use a sofa arm if nothing better is within reach. This flat board is woven from natural sisal, a coarse fibre that gives claws something to catch on and holds up to the same patch being worked over daily. Placed beside the furniture your cat has already claimed, it usually moves the habit across within a week or two.

It is not fixed to a frame, which is the point. Laid flat by a doorway it doubles as a mat the cat can nap on; pressed against a wall, a glass panel, a wooden cabinet side or a fabric surface it becomes a vertical stretching post. Cats that like to reach up while they scratch get a full-body stretch from the wall position that no floor pad can offer.

The sisal is non-toxic and free of added chemicals, so kittens can use it as safely as adult cats, and loose fibres brush or vacuum straight up. Three sizes cover different builds: small at 20 x 40 cm (7.87 x 15.75 in), medium at 25 x 50 cm (9.84 x 19.69 in) and large at 30 x 60 cm (11.81 x 23.62 in). Pick the large for a long cat that stretches out flat, the small for a kitten or a narrow hallway.

  • Woven natural sisal surface built for repeated scratching

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my cat actually use it?

Put it right beside the spot they already scratch. Cats reach for whatever is nearest, and sisal gives a far better claw grip than upholstery, so most switch over quickly.

What is it made of?

Natural woven sisal. It is a coarse plant fibre, which is exactly what claws need to catch on, and it wears slowly even when one patch gets worked every day.

Can it be used flat or upright?

Both. Lay it flat for cats who stretch out and scratch along the floor, or lean it against furniture for the ones who prefer to reach up.

How do I clean it?

Vacuum the loose fibre off it now and then. That is the lot, and it keeps the surface fresh enough that your cat keeps choosing it.

Does it work for more than one cat?

Yes, and the flat shape helps: there is no single perch to compete over, so two cats can use it at different times without either claiming it.
